The Nara District Court on Friday sentenced the former mayor of Tenri, Nara Prefecture, to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years, for accepting a 1 million yen bribe to help a man get a job with the city office.

The court also imposed a 1 million yen fine on Fumio Ichihara, 70, who resigned as mayor after being arrested in September.

Hiroyuki Fujiyoshi, 57, the father of the man who got the job, and Sadao Nishikawa, 77, were each sentenced to a year in prison, suspended for three years, as well as fined 1 million yen each.
