Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar told visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka on Saturday that Pakistan wants to take part in the ministerial meeting of donors for Afghanistan's reconstruction, which will take place in Tokyo early next year, a Japanese official said.

In talks at Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, Sattar said Pakistan welcomed the meeting of senior officials of prospective donor countries and international organizations that was held Tuesday in Washington and chaired jointly by Japan and the United States.

Tanaka said Japan also wants Pakistan to take part in the Tokyo meeting, the official said, explaining that Japan is expected to discuss Pakistan's participation with the U.S. and the European Union. Pakistan did not take part in the Washington meeting.

On the new administration to be set up in post-conflict Afghanistan, Sattar said he believes it should be broad-based and representative of all ethnic groups in the country, including the Northern Alliance, the official said.
