A former Yamanashi prefectural assemblyman was kidnapped last month for the second time in three years by Colombia’s largest leftist guerrilla group, Colombian police said Monday.

Shoro Shimura, 72, is believed to have been kidnapped on the outskirts of Bogota by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on Sept. 1, with a ransom demand having been issued to people close to him, according to police. It is not yet known how much the kidnappers are demanding for Shimura’s release.
