The Saitama District Court on Tuesday sentenced Emiko Kawasaki to a suspended three-year prison term for killing her 2-year-old son on April 3 by repeatedly slamming him on the floor.

Presiding Judge Takuichi Kawakami said Kawasaki, 33, physically abused her son, Kengo, to vent the stress that built up in her daily life. He suspended her sentence for five years, with prosecutors having demanded a four-year prison term.

According to the court, Kawasaki was stressed by the slow development of Kengo's elder brother and became enraged when she thought the toddler had damaged a backpack.

In addition to repeatedly slamming her son on the floor, she beat him in the face and abdomen, according to the court.
