A junior high school teacher arrested Saturday over the death of a 12-year-old girl found on an expressway in Kobe told police the girl fell out of his car while trying to escape, according to police sources.

Ken Fukumoto is escorted to a police vehicle outside the Hyogo Prefectural Police headquarters, before being handed over to prosecutors.

Ken Fukumoto, 34, can still be charged with murder based on criminal intent even if he did not push Noriko Kamiie out of his car, the sources said.

Fukumoto told investigators that he planned from the beginning to kidnap Kamiie when he contacted the girl through a telephone dating club and offered to pay for sex, they said.
