SAPPORO – A man stabbed a 2-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl to death and severely injured their 6-year-old sister Wednesday after bursting into their family’s home in Hiroo, Hokkaido, police said.
The man fled the home of Hajime Kikuchi after the attack at around 2:30 p.m. but later gave himself up to police in the quiet residential town in southern Hokkaido.
Police said they intend to arrest the man, 24, who lives in the same town, on suspicion of murder as soon as they obtain a warrant.
The boy, Tetsuya Kikuchi, died immediately from stab wounds to the chest and other parts of the body, and his 5-year-old sister, Masami, died shortly after 4 p.m. at a hospital with three stab wounds to the abdomen and chest, a hospital official said.
The other daughter, Kazumi, sustained severe injuries, the official said.
The three were alone at the time of the attack as their mother was out shopping. A fourth child was at a nursery school, according to police investigations.
The investigations showed the man burst into the house brandishing a kitchen knife and told the children to be quiet if they did not want to die.
Kazumi managed to run to a neighbor for help, according to investigations.
