Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Boeing Co. of the U.S. have agreed to broader tieups in the aerospace business, Mitsubishi Electric officials said Wednesday.

The two want to grow their global satellite business by cashing in on the synergy between Mitsubishi's telecommunications technology and Boeing's aerospace technology, the officials said.

The tieups will cover, among other areas, satellite-based telecommunications, rocket launches and aircraft flight-control, but the officials stopped short of specifying details of the cooperative arrangements.

Aerospace is expected to present lucrative opportunities around the world, especially for the purpose of telecommunications and broadcasting, they said.

The two firms have been cooperating in satellite-based telecommunications for aircraft.
