The Tottori Prefectural Government on Thursday proposed a bill to provide up to 3 million yen to households that have lost their homes through natural disasters. While Shimane Prefecture runs a similar program targeting households headed by those age 65 and over, the Tottori plan, submitted to the prefectural assembly, is the first of its kind across the nation making all residents eligible, according to Tottori officials.

The bill defines applicable natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods as those in which 10 or more homes are destroyed, or those deemed as such by the governor in consultation with municipal authorities.
