The Liberal Party on Monday formally opened its "prep school" for future politicians at a hall in Tokyo.
The roughly 50 participants will spend a full week listening to lecturers from a wide range of fields.
Party leader Ichiro Ozawa, who will also serve as the principal of the school, addressed the opening ceremony and stressed that what Japanese politics lacks most is the purity to debate key issues.
Among the lecturers are Kyoto University professor Terumasa Nakanishi and political commentator Soichiro Tawara. Ozawa himself is planning to give a two-hour lecture on Saturday.
The students include lawyers, doctors, civil servants and university students who passed the party's screening process.
