Okinawa Development Agency chief Ryutaro Hashimoto vowed Monday to do his best to promote development in the prefecture in a meeting with Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine at the prefectural government office.

Hashimoto, visiting Okinawa for the first time since becoming agency chief earlier this month, said: "I aim to work all-out for the further development of Okinawa Prefecture in the new century. I hope to consult with the governor in realizing his requests, all of which are important."

In the meeting, Inamine called for the resolution of issues concerning U.S. military bases in Okinawa and the drafting of a new Okinawa development law.

Inamine also reiterated his desire to quickly resolve the issue of a proposed 15-year time limit on the U.S. military's use of a planned airport in Nago, northern Okinawa, to which the heliport functions of the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma Air Station in central Okinawa will be relocated.
