Nine cellular phone carriers affiliated with Japan Telecom Co. will use J-Phone as their unified brand name for their companies and services starting Friday, the companies announced Wednesday.

The companies currently use two brand names -- Digital TU-KA and J-Phone.

By launching the unified brand name, Japan Telecom aims to quickly increase the number of its subscribers to 10 million from the current 7.3 million, Japan Telecom Chairman Koichi Sakata said.

Under the unified brand name, the nine firms will offer the same services at the same rates across the country, officials of the companies said.
