The first Canadian Masters of Business Administration graduate degree program to be offered in Japan officially got under way Friday with a ceremony held at Tokyo's Sophia University.

In cooperation with Montreal-based McGill University, the program will be offered to 43 international and Japanese students and businesspeople. The two-year program -- the first class of which graduates in 2000 -- is designed so participants can earn an MBA in international business management while working full time.

The course consists of 60 credits; classes will be held in English two weekends each month from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sophia University's Yotsuya campus. The content of the program is identical to the course taught in Canada.
