The two Royal Park hotels in Tokyo are each running an American Turkey Fair through Dec. 17 in collaboration with the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council and the United Soybean Board.

Timed with Thanksgiving and the holiday season, turkey, America’s traditional poultry dish served during the holidays, is cooked in various styles and added to the regular buffet menus of the Royal Park Hotel’s coffee shop Symphony and Royal Park Shiodome Tower’s restaurant Harmony.

The menu includes smoked whole turkey carved in front of customers and mushroom potage soup with turkey sausage at Symphony, and roast turkey with cranberry sauce and orange marinated turkey at Harmony.

At Symphony, the lunch buffet is ¥3,150 per adult and ¥2,100 per child, while the dinner buffet is ¥5,250 per adult, ¥3,150 per child and ¥4,725 for seniors.

At Harmony, the buffet is only offered during lunchtime and costs ¥2,887 for adults and ¥1,432 for children on weekdays, and ¥4,042 for adults and ¥2,009 for children on weekends and holidays.

Peninsula hosts culinary ‘circus’

The Peninsula Tokyo is holding its third annual Cirque Culinaire from Nov. 19 to 22 at its restaurants and bars — Peter, Peter: The Bar, Hei Fung Terrace, The Lobby and Kyoto Tsuruya — and other venues, inviting prestigious chefs, wine experts and winemakers from around the world.

The series of events kicks off at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 with a charity cocktail reception at The Lobby, followed by a gala dinner (¥50,000 per person) with a live auction to benefit Make-A-Wish of Japan. The gala features a six-course dinner created by six international chefs, Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines and a singer performing live.

Events over the four days will include wine- and Champagne-makers’ lunches and dinners (from ¥18,000); Chinese afternoon tea (¥4,880); macrobiotic lunch, afternoon tea and dinner (from ¥2,800); and Gion lunch and dinner (¥18,000 and ¥33,000), featuring performances by geisha.

Hilton Tokyo holds Peruvian fair

The Hilton Tokyo, in collaboration with PromPeru, Peru’s tourism promotion bureau, will host the culinary fair Fascinating Peru — Gourmet & Cultural Promotion for the fourth consecutive year at its buffet restaurant Checkers from Nov. 12 to 21.

Roberto Grau, the chef from Peru’s famed restaurant Astrid & Gaston, will arrange a variety of Peruvian dishes and drinks for a lunch and dinner buffet. Among the dishes are ceviche (raw seafood marinated in lemon juice) and lomo saltado (a Chinese-influenced stir-fried dish of beef, tomatoes and potatoes). Dessert includes specialties such as a mousse using the Peruvian fruit lucuma and a purple corn pudding called mazamorra morada.

Among the drinks are Tacama wine, rarely found in Japan; the “national” cocktail, Pisco Sour; purple corn juice chicha morada; and popular soft drink Inca Kola. The drinks are available at an additional charge.

The lunch buffet is ¥3,500 per adult and ¥2,000 per child, while the dinner buffet is ¥6,000 per adult and ¥3,000 per child. All prices include tax and service charges. Live Peruvian folk music will be performed on the weekends and there will also be a chance to win a free flight to Peru.
