The 26th Goto Camellia Festival

The Nagasaki Prefecture's Goto Islands, located off the western coast of Kyushu, are a good destination for those who yearn to escape the urban din. As spring approaches, there will be another reason to visit the area, which is known as a natural habitat for camellias.

The 26th Goto Camellia Festival will take place from Feb. 22 to March 1, just as the blossoms are expected to reach their peak in beauty. The flowers will be displayed like bonsai trees at Furusatokan Pavillion in the Samurai Quarter, and the Kedashimon gate of the Fukue Castle ruins will be lit up from 6 to 10 p.m. during the festival. In line with COVID-19 guidelines, the government is strongly requesting that residents and visitors exercise caution if they choose to visit bars, restaurants, music venues and other public spaces.
