The "Shiseido Art Egg" project began in 2006 to promote up-and-coming artists selected by the public. Once chosen, the artists work with Shiseido Gallery curators to put on a solo exhibition.

Out of 350 applicants, three artists — Yuma Tomiyasu, Koichi Sato and Hanae Utamura — were picked to take part in the 12th edition of "Art Egg."

Tomiyasu is a contemporary artist who explores intangibles such as the spiritual phenomena that lie between so-called real and imaginary worlds. Sato has focused on gender and post-humanism, which have been expressed through his depictions of plant-human relationships in multimedia installations, and Utamura presents an interactive piece that focuses on the notion of embodiment.
