"1960's-2000's Fashion"
As a time of burgeoning mass consumerism, the 1960s became an epoch-making era for fashion. Haute couture, privately made custom-fitted high fashion, which first prospered in Paris at the end of the 19th century, faced its first reform with the introduction of ready-made prêt-à-porter clothing. Rising designers of the time took over the position of lead players in the growing fashion industry.

"The 30th Anniversary of Ito Cultural Foundation — Highlights of The Donation"
The Ito Cultural Foundation was established in 1981 according to the wishes of Denzo Ito, the founder of Itoham Foods. Itoham Foods' headquarters is in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, and the foundation was set up near Himeji to help Hyogo museums and cultural facilities offer the public better access to high-quality art. As of March this year, the foundation has donated approximately 700 artworks and some 4,000 books to the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art.

"Tezuka Osamu's Student Life in Osaka University: To Be a Doctor or a Manga Artist, That Is the Question"
Osamu Tezuka, one of Japan's most famous manga artists, was an Osaka University medical graduate, though he never practiced medicine. He started at Osaka University in 1945 and made his manga debut the following year. In 1950, when he was still a student, he started a manga series titled "Jungle Taitei" ("Kimba the White Lion") and in 1952, one year after his graduation, he created his most notable character, "Tetsuwan Atom" ("Astro Boy").

"Christine Flint Sato Solo Exhibition: A Turning"
Christine Flint Sato is a British sumi-e (sumi ink) artist based in Nara. She specializes in tarashikomi, a traditional Japanese technique of pouring ink onto the paper, which she combines with detailed brushwork.

"Tokuda Yasokichi III"
Yasokichi Tokuda III (1933-2009) was born into a Kutaniware pottery family. Kutaniware traditionally used dark-blue, purple, green and yellow glazes, but its creators also produced more contemporary colors based on traditional hues. Tokuda himself took advantage of the 200 different colored glazes now available to ceramicists.

"Kuniyoshi: Spectacular Ukiyo-e Imagination"
Ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock print) artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798-1861) is famous for works combining innovative design with fantastic ideas. Such works are highly acclaimed by dedicated fans and have inspired many of today's designers and younger generations of artists. In 2009, "Kuniyoshi," an exhibition held at London's Royal Academy, proved popular. It garnered continued success in New York in 2010.

"Le Chat Noir: Entertainment, Art And Culture In Paris 1880-1910"
From the end of the 19th to the early 20th centuries, Paris went through two completely different periods: end-of-century decadence and the apolaustic Belle Epoque. In 1881, "Le Chat Noir" (French for "The Black Cat"), an entertainment house, opened in Montmartre, and it became a base for a group of rising artists called the "Incohérents."

"Eikyu Matsuoka"
Born near Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Eikyu Matsuoka (1881-1938) was the youngest of eight brothers, who included well-known academics such as poet and Japanese literature researcher Michiyasu Inoue, folklorist Kunio Yanagida, and linguist Shizuo Matsuoka.

"Kazuyoshi Miyoshi Photo Exhibition: The World Heritage Yakushima"
A Tokushima Prefecture native, Kazuyoshi Miyoshi started taking photos when he was a junior high school student. His first photo collection, "Rakuen" ("Paradise"), a series of images taken on tropical islands such as the Seychelles and Maldives, won him the 11th Kimura Ihei Photography Award. At age 27, he was the youngest winner of the award at the time.
