A Tokushima Prefecture native, Kazuyoshi Miyoshi started taking photos when he was a junior high school student. His first photo collection, "Rakuen" ("Paradise"), a series of images taken on tropical islands such as the Seychelles and Maldives, won him the 11th Kimura Ihei Photography Award. At age 27, he was the youngest winner of the award at the time.
Since then, "Rakuen" has become Miyoshi's life work, and he continues to explore his definition of "Paradise." Though still taking images of cultural heritage sites overseas, he also focuses on Japanese scenery, including Mount Fuji, Shikoku's pilgrimage route of 88 holy sites and Mount Koya.
This show presents photos of Yakushima Island, which sits about 60 km south of Kagoshima Prefecture and was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1993; till May 22.
