As a time of burgeoning mass consumerism, the 1960s became an epoch-making era for fashion. Haute couture, privately made custom-fitted high fashion, which first prospered in Paris at the end of the 19th century, faced its first reform with the introduction of ready-made prêt-à-porter clothing. Rising designers of the time took over the position of lead players in the growing fashion industry.
This exhibition is showing around 50 dresses by more than 30 designers representative of the late-20th-century fashion industry, including works by Issei Miyake and Yoji Yamamoto, both of whom were strong influences on Western fashion; till June 28.
