A 48-year-old unemployed man was arrested Tuesday for forcing his stepdaughter to sever her left little finger.
According to police, Takayoshi Harada of Matsue allegedly handed a kitchen knife to the 21-year-old stepdaughter and had her chop off her own finger on March 16. The police did not disclose the name of the stepdaughter.
Harada admitted to the charges, saying he ordered the woman to do so because she made him “angry,” according to police.
The daughter’s finger was stitched up when her mother took her to a hospital immediately after the incident, but her injury required a monthlong stay in the hospital.
Police plan to question the mother about the incident. They suspect the daughter had been chronically abused, as she told the investigators she could not resist when she was ordered to sever her finger.
