At his superb new patisserie, Yuicihi Goto is without equal
Called Equal, this is the latest project by master patissier Yuichi Goto. Best-known as co-owner of the ever-excellent Path in nearby Tomigaya, his illustrious resume includes spells at the three-star Restaurant Troisgros in France, and then at Sugalabo in Tokyo's Kamiyacho.

'Love's Twisting Path': An old-school samurai swashbuckler
Now a spry 84, Sadao Nakajima is one of the few directors from Japan's studio era who is still active. After joining Toei in 1959 and making his directorial debut in 1964, Nakajima shot yakuza actioners and samurai swashbucklers (chanbara eiga) for more than three decades with Toei's Kyoto studio as his base.

It's not hard for a restaurant to generate buzz. All it takes is a strong design, cool music — on vinyl, of course — and some hot PR. But to maintain that level of vibrancy, it needs to be good. It also helps if it's a bit special, and Path qualifies on all counts.

Only amnesiacs could laud this recovery path
American graduates this season are entering an economy where more than 40 percent of recent college grads are either unemployed or in jobs that do not require a college degree. Barack Obama seems to suffer from amnesia concerning the policies that produced the robust recovery from the severe recession of 1981-82.
