Ginza galleries to cater to late-night art fans
Businessmen and women will have an easier chance to peruse some of the best art galleries in Tokyo's Ginza district this week, as 25 of the establishments extend their opening hours for an event dubbed "Garo no Yakai" ("Gallery Night Party").

'Kawai Gyokudo: Depicting Japan, Heart and Hearth'
Nihonga (Japanese-style) artist Kawai Gyokudo's nostalgic imagery of nature and people made him a national favorite in Japan. Combining the teachings of the Kano and Maruyama-shijo schools of the late 19th century, Gyokudo (1873-1957) achieved a distinctive style that earned him the Order of Culture from the Japanese Government in 1940.

'The Exhibition of Otani Collection'
The New Otani Art Museum has chosen 30 seasonal works from its own collection for this year's summer show. Known for acquiring impressive Edo Period and modern works, the museum is showcasing nihonga (Japanese-style) painting, such as Jippo Araki's "Swallows in Summer" and Gyokudo Kawai's "Breeze in the Pines, the Sound of the Waves."
