Promises of 'taboo' topics rarely live up to the billing
When you see the word 'tabu016b' in a headline, it's probably not really a taboo, mainly because self-censorship ensures that topics that really are taboo are treated with commensurate caution. John Kerry: a 'magnificent' U.S. secretary of state
The indefatigable U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has been astoundingly discreet as a Mideast peace broker. Not a hint of what has been said in private has leaked into the public domain, yet there is almost no hope of a real peace deal.

Ariel Sharon, the late former Israeli prime minister, was not called the 'the Bulldozer' for being a fearless leader. Nor do Arabs call him 'the Butcher of Beirut' for simply overseeing the invasion of Lebanon.

Americans showing sound isolationist instincts
American military intervention in Iraq has been the largest cause of the present chaos, and that makes the isolationist instincts of the American people, displayed recently when the president rashly wanted to bomb Syria, were and remain sound ones.

Sharon's life shaped Israel, mirrored its turbulent times
The death of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who had been in a deep coma since suffering a stroke in January 2006, represents an extraordinary moment of rupture in his country's history. Could Iranian officials have a point when they sometimes respond to accusations that Tehran is seeking a nuclear weapons capability by not-so-subtly nodding to the one country in the region that does have nuclear weapons: Israel?

U.S. aims to mend fences with Iran, critics notwithstanding
It's not only most Israelis, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the policy-community hawks in Washington and acolytes of AIPAC in the Congress who hate the interim nuclear agreement signed by Iran in November with the United Nations Security Council "P5-plus-one."
