'The Best of Me' has enough cornball to start a biofuel company
You've never known love until you've kissed in the pouring rain. I've come to believe this is a fact of life after watching one too many movies written by Nicholas Sparks (e.g., "The Notebook" and "Nights in Rodanthe"). Other facts include: You should never ever stop dieting, even after you hit 35, in case you run into old boyfriends, which is bound to happen; and old boyfriends remain handsome forever — they never grow old or put on weight.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: 'initial exhilaration gives way to fatigue'
On the one hand, we have the fanboys, for whom "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" will be the "Best. Film. Ever.," as director Peter Jackson delivers a ginormously action-packed finale to his second Middle Earth trilogy. Kicking things off with a fire-breathing dragon razing the town of Lakewood, Jackson moves quickly into a supersized battle between elves, dwarves, men, goblins, bats, wizards and orcs, but alas, no winged monkeys. One film to rule them all . . . at least until "Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens" comes along.

The charge of "public masquerading" — so quaint to modern ears — was itself nothing new, but the choice of costume was notable: James had gone for a stroll dressed as the main character from A.D. Condo's newspaper comic strip, "Mr. Skygack, from Mars."

Dracula Untold: 'Never before has Dracula wielded power on such a grand scale'
Here's the thing about vampires: They're not only cool to begin with but they are also afforded endless opportunities to further their coolness. This is where they differ significantly from werewolves and Frankenstein's monster. I mean, if proms and singles' parties were held in the realm of paranormal creatures, vampires would be the ones getting all the hot dates, leaving werewolves weeping into their wine and Frankenstein's monster tinkering with the bolts sticking out of his head. But I digress.
