Nadeshiko Japan manager Norio Sasaki wasted no time in targeting the gold medal at next year's Rio Olympics as the beaten Women's World Cup finalists returned home from Canada on Tuesday.
Defending champion Japan saw its reign come to an emphatic end against the United States in Sunday's final in Vancouver, conceding four goals inside the opening 16 minutes en route to a 5-2 defeat that saw the Americans lift the trophy for a record third time.
Japan beat the U.S. on penalties to win its first-ever World Cup in 2011, but the Americans avenged that defeat a year later by edging Sasaki's side 2-1 to claim gold at the London Olympics.
