Japan's Fed Cup team earned a promotional playoff fixture with Kazakhstan on Friday, when the Japanese women completed a clean sweep of Asia-Oceania Group 1 Pool A with a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Guangzhou, China.
Japan won all nine of the matches it played in a group that also included South Korea and Hong Kong. Kazakhstan's women prevailed in Pool B, winning all three of their fixtures by an aggregate score of 6-3. Their group included host China, Thailand and Taiwan.
The winner between Japan and Kazakhstan will advance to the World Group II playoffs in April.
