EDMONTON, ALBERTA – Defending World Cup champion Nadeshiko Japan defeated Canada 3-0 in a friendly on Saturday behind goals from Yuki Ogimi, Yuri Kawamura and Nahomi Kawasumi.
Ogimi put Japan in front in the ninth minute at Commonwealth Stadium after getting a pass from Shinobu Ono. Kawamura gave the visitors some breathing room in the 70th minute, heading in a corner to make it 2-0. Kawasumi, who is on the shortlist for FIFA’s women’s player of the year, added the finishing touches for Japan.
