FIFA on Friday named Argentina's Lionel Messi, Brazil's Neymar and Colombian star James Rodriguez among the nominees for the World Cup Golden Ball.

Four-time world player of the year Messi, Neymar, whose tournament was ended prematurely by a back injury, and Rodriguez feature among 10 players on the shortlist for the tournament's best player.

Messi is joined by Argentina teammates Angel Di Maria and Javier Mascherano, while Thomas Muller is among four German players named, with skipper Philipp Lahm, Mats Hummels and Toni Kroos also on the list.

Dutchman Arjen Robben was also picked ahead of his appearance in Saturday's third-place playoff against tournament hosts Brazil.
