Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm advanced to the second round of the Korea Open on Tuesday with a first-round victory over Britain's Heather Watson.

Date-Krumm, ranked 63rd in the world, came from a set down to defeat the 78th-ranked Watson 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 2 hours, 26 minutes at Olympic Park Tennis Stadium. In 2009, Date-Krumm won the event one day before her 39th birthday, becoming the second oldest WTA champion in the open era.

Countrywoman Risa Ozaki, who had to qualify for the singles draw, pushed No. 8 seed Annika Beck to the brink of defeat in the second set before being overcome by the German in three sets 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Nishikori to face McEnroe

Kyodo

Japanese ace Kei Nishikori will square off against tennis legend John McEnroe in a November charity match, the Japan Tennis Association announced Tuesday.

The match, scheduled for Nov. 17 at Ariake Colosseum, will be part of an event to support the rebuilding efforts following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeast Japan. Nishikori is currently ranked 12th in the world.

It is the third year the event will be held, with two-time Paralympic wheelchair champion Shingo Kunieda and former ace Shuzo Matsuoka also scheduled to take to the court.
