Former New York Yankee Hideki Matsui, the 2009 World Series MVP, will throw batting practice to the Staten Island Yankees prior to their game against the Hudson Valley Renegades on Saturday.
Matsui, 39, is also scheduled to throw batting practice for the Single-A club on Monday and Tuesday.
The former outfielder spent seven seasons with the Yankees, hitting .292 with 140 homers and 597 RBIs.
Matsui is well remembered for his exceptional performance in the 2009 World Series, where he hit .615 with three homers and eight RBIs and captured the series MVP.
Matsui had stints with the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays after leaving New York. He announced his retirement in December last year.
Matsui has said he will sign a one-day minor league contract with the Yankees, so he can retire with the team in a ceremony to be held on July 28 prior to New York's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
