Hiroyuki Fujita cruised to his first JGTO tour money title on Sunday, when he won the Nippon Series JT Cup championship by five strokes and became the first player to win the event three years in a row.
The 43-year-old Fujita is the oldest player to win the money title for the first time and the first in his 40s since Naomichi Ozaki did it at the age of 43 in 1999. He is also the first Japanese golfer to win since Ryo Ishikawa was the tour's top earner in 2009.
"Everyone was calling me the money king and that pushed me on to victory," Fujita said. "There is no better way to bring down the curtain."
Fujita, who started the final round with a six-stroke lead, carded five birdies against two bogies for a 3-under-par 67 and finished at 18-under-par 262. He was the sole leader since his 9-under-par first round.
