Nemoto, Kakunaka lead Marines past Fighters


Shunichi Nemoto and Katsuya Kakunaka had back-to-back RBI hits in the seventh inning Sunday, lifting the Chiba Lotte Marines to a 2-1 victory over the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters.

Nemoto drove in a runner from first on a one-out triple to right-center, and scored on Kakunaka’s single to center to make it 2-0 against reliever Toshiharu Moriuchi (0-1) at Sapporo Dome.

Makoto Kaneko hit an RBI single with two outs in the ninth, but the Fighters came up short.

Tomohisa Otani (3-5) pitched one scoreless inning in relief to earn the win, while Yasuhiko Yabuta posted his 20th save.

Hawks 10, Buffaloes 8

At Kyocera Dome, Hiroaki Takaya broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning, and Yuya Hasegawa hit a two-run homer to key a five-run ninth in Fukuoka Softbank’s fifth straight win.

Orix made it close with a four-run ninth, featuring Takahiro Okada’s two-run double, but it wasn’t enough as the Buffaloes fell to their fifth loss in a row. Teenage right-hander Shota Takeda (4-0), the Hawks’ first-round pick last autumn, allowed a run in five innings.

At Tokyo Dome, Shinnosuke Abe hit a tiebreaking walkoff homer in the ninth inning, as Yomiuri completed a three-game sweep of Hiroshima.

Abe teed off on big right-hander Kam Mickolio for a leadoff shot over the wall in right-center and was mobbed by his teammates when he tagged home. Reliever Tetsuya Yamaguchi (2-2) earned the win for the second day in a row.

At Nagoya Dome, Kensuke Uchimura had a two-out RBI single to break a scoreless tie in the 10th inning, and Hichori Morimoto later drew a bases-loaded walk for insurance as Yokohama held off Chunichi.

BayStars starter Kisho Kagami (2-1) allowed just two singles with seven strikeouts over nine innings in a pitching duel against Soma Yamauchi, who pitched eight scoreless frames for Chunichi. Shun Yamaguchi picked up his 14th save.
