HUA HIN, Thailand (Kyodo) Ryo Ishikawa suffered a disappointing 4-and-2 defeat in his singles match against Welshman Rhys Davies on Sunday as Europe stormed back on the final day to beat Asia 9-7 at the Royal Trophy.

Europe lifted the trophy for the fourth time in five meetings after winning six of the day’s eight singles matches, with two matches ending all square at Black Mountain Golf Club in the Thai resort of Hua Hin.

Davies led by as many as 5 up over Ishikawa before sealing the win with a birdie on the par-4 16th hole, where his 19-year-old opponent bogeyed.

“I have a lot to take from this event, but it’s just disappointing to lose this way,” Ishikawa said. “My driving was just all over the place. I’d like to develop a more consistent swing.”
