CHANGCHUN, China (Kyodo) Speedskaters Joji Kato and Keiichiro Nagashima took second and third, respectively, in the men's 500 meters at a World Cup meet on Saturday.

Kato timed 35.25 seconds while Nagashima was a further 0.05 back in a race won by South Korean Lee Kang Seok, who clocked 35.10. Yuya Oikawa was in seventh.

In women's action, Nao Kodaira placed third in the 500 in 38.51 to make her second podium finish this season. Beijing Olympic champion Lee Sang Hwa of South Korea pipped Jenny Wolf of Germany with a winning time of 38.24. Wolf, who was 0.05 behind Lee, came second after winning the first four World Cup titles this season.
