STRASBOURG, France (Kyodo) Ayumi Morita has advanced to the women’s singles semifinals of a WTA event for the first time in her career.

The 19-year-old defeated third-seeded Chinese Peng Shuai 7-5, 6-2 in her quarterfinal match at the Strasbourg International on clay Thursday.

She lost in the quarterfinals twice in 2007 and once this year at the ASB Classic in Auckland in January.
