CHIBA – Eiichi Koyano went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs and Yoshio Itoi contributed with three RBIs as the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters held off the Chiba Lotte Marines 10-7 to win their third game in a row on Monday.
Itoi had a two-run single to highlight a three-run first inning and after the Fighters went ahead 4-3, Hichori Morimoto helped break open the game with a two-run double to key a four-run fourth in Pacific League action at Chiba Marine Stadium.
Atsunori Inaba homered in the sixth and Itoi added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Kazuhito Tadano (2-2) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings but got plenty of run support.
Lions 8, Eagles 3
At Seibu Dome, Takayuki Kishi pitched three-run ball with seven strikeouts over eight effective innings to win his fifth consecutive start from the beginning of the season in the Lions’ rout of Tohoku Rakuten.
Takeya Nakamura had a two-run double that ignited a four-run first and Hiroyuki Nakajima and Hiroshi Hirao hit solo homers in the third and sixth innings, respectively.
Buffaloes 8, Hawks 5
At Skymark Stadium, Shinji Shimoyama hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning as Orix stopped a four-game losing skid with a win over Softbank.
The Hawks had a 5-4 lead through the fourth until Shimoyama’s blast to left off Kameron Loe (0-4) put Orix ahead. Kazuki Kondo (3-1) yielded five runs in six innings of the win.
Daisuke Kato allowed consecutive singles with one out in the ninth to Hiroki Kokubo and Yuya Hasegawa but induced Jose Ortiz to hit into a game-ending double play.
Dragons 4, BayStars 2 (11)
At Yokohama Stadium, Atsushi Fujii delivered a tiebreaking homer leading off the 11th inning and Chunichi added two insurance runs to beat Yokohama.
Fujii connected to the stands in right off Yuya Ishii (0-3) before consecutive RBI singles with two outs by Masahiko Morino and Tony Blanco.
Yudai Kawai surrendered only one run and two hits in nine innings before Shinsuke Saito (1-0) won in relief.
Swallows 5, Carp 3
At Mazda Stadium, Jamie D’Antona and Kazuhiro Hatakeyama hit solo drives in the fifth inning to give Yakult the lead for good in a win over Hiroshima.
Norichika Aoki hit a two-run blast to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the third before the Carp tied the game 3-3. D’Antona went deep to left-center with one out and Hatakeyama drilled a shot the same direction with two outs, both off Rui Makino (0-1).
Tigers 6, Giants 0
At Koshien Stadium, veteran lefty Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi threw six shutout innings and Tomoaki Kanemoto drove in two runs on a 2-for-4 night as Hanshin snapped a 12-game winless streak against Yomiuri, including one tie, extending back to Aug. 30, 2008.
