KONAN, Kochi Pref. (Kyodo) Ayako Uehara captured her first title of the season at the rain-shortened Yokohama Tire PGR Ladies Cup on Sunday.

Uehara held a five-shot lead after carding a 71 on Saturday and claimed victory after Sunday's final round was canceled because of inclement weather at Tosa Country Club.

Play was suspended twice because of rain before organizers were eventually forced to shorten the tournament to 36 holes.

"I am really pleased but I had been ready to play today. The final round was shortened to nine holes and then it was eventually canceled and I am a bit surprised," said Uehara.

The victory was the second of Uehara's career after her maiden win at last year's Fujisankei Ladies Classic.
