Kei Nishikori has been named to the country’s Davis Cup team, the Japan Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.
Nishikori, who became the second Japanese in history to win an ATP tournament last year, has been selected to play in the second round of the Asia/Oceania Zone Group One at Namihaya Dome sub arena in Osaka from March 6-8.
Nishikori has dropped to 93rd in the world rankings from a career-high 56th after losing the points he earned for winning the Delay Beach International Tennis Championships last February.
Go Soeda, Satoshi Iwabuchi and Takao Suzuki have also been selected for the matchup against China.
