MADRID (Kyodo) Beijing Olympics all-around silver medalist Kohei Uchimura took a back seat to Brazilian Diego Hypolito in the men's floor exercise, settling for silver at the World Cup final on Saturday.

Uchimura, the national champion in the individual all-around, earned 15.900 points to place him in second behind reigning floor world champion Hypolito, who collected 16.125 for a comfortable victory. Israel's Alexander Shatilov came third with 15.500.

In women's action, Japan's Koko Tsurumi won a bronze medal in the uneven bars, making the surprise finish after Olympic bronze medalist Yang Yilin of China withdrew due to lower back pain.

He Kexin, the Olympic gold medalist in the uneven bars, and Jiang Yuyan made a 1-2 finish for China.

The biennial competition features the world's top eight gymnasts in each discipline. Former all-around world champion Hiroyuki Tomita, who has announced that he will retire, will make his swansong on the final day of the meet on Sunday.
