CHANGCHUN, China (Kyodo) Keiichiro Nagashima finished second Saturday in the men's 500 meters at a speedskating World Cup meet in China.

Nagashima, winner of the season-opening 500-meter race a month ago in Berlin, timed 35.08 seconds to place behind China's Yu Fengtong, who won in 34.97, while South Korean Lee Kyou Hyuk was third in 35.27.

Yuya Oikawa was back in fifth in 35.38 and former world record-holder Joji Kato trailed in eighth in 35.68.

In the men's 1,000 meters, Lee emerged the winner in 1 minute, 9.68 seconds. Nagashima could only manage 14th in 1:12.05.
