Runnings backs Yusuke Shinshi and Motoki Yoshida rushed for 100 and 117 yards, respectively, to guide the Fujitsu Frontiers to a 31-21 victory over the defending X League champion Onward Skylarks in the second round of the Final 6 at Yokohama Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Fujitsu overwhelmed the Skylarks on the ground throughout the game, notching 277 yards rushing. Yuichi Tomizawa, who was the starting signal-caller for Japan in last summer's World Championships in Kawasaki, completed two touchdown passes while to lead a rally in the final quarter, but Fujitsu overcame the late surge. Tomizawa had 261 yards, while Akihiro Izuhara threw for 160 yards on 12-for-16 passing for the Frontiers. On the other side of the bracket, the Obic Seagulls equalled the game at 23 all with a touchdown pass by Manabu Tatsumura with 40 seconds left in regulation. But Impulse kicker Masahiro Ota made two field goals in overtime as Matsushita Denko edged the Impulse 29-26 at Nagai Stadium in Osaka. Fujitsu and Matsushita Denko will meet in the Japan X Bowl at Tokyo Dome on December 17.
