YOKOHAMA – Damon Hollins hit a tiebreaking single and Kenji Yano followed with a two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning as the Yomiuri Giants outlasted the Yokohama BayStars 7-4 on Sunday.
Yomiuri scored three runs on four hits in the 10th off closer Marc Kroon (2-1) to avoid a three-game sweep at Yokohama Stadium and maintain its Central League lead.
Koji Uehara (3-1), taking the mound with two outs and runners on first and second in the ninth, retired all four batters he faced for the win.
Yoshinobu Takahashi hit his fourth home run in three games with a two-run shot in the fifth. Yano had a pinch-hit solo homer in the seventh before extending Yomiuri’s lead with a 10th-inning triple.

Rick Guttormson threw seven innings of one-run ball in his first start since serving a 20-day suspension for taking a hair growing agent that contained Finasteride. The substance is not performance-enhancing but is banned because it can be used as a masking agent for other illegal drugs.
