Lions, Hawks clinch Pa League playoff berths


Hideaki Wakui threw 7 1/3 shutout innings and Takeya Nakamura and Hiroyuki Takagi drove in a run apiece, helping first-place Seibu Lions top the Tohoku Rakuten Eagles 2-1 to secure a berth in the two-stage Pacific League series with their fifth win in a row.

In the sixth, Nakamura drew a bases-loaded walk followed by Takagi’s RBI single off Yasuhiro Ichiba (6-14), who surrendered two runs on five hits in six innings.

At Osaka’s Kyocera Dome, Hokkaido Nippon Ham’s Fernando Seguignol hit a pair of two-run homers and drove in six runs while Yu Darvish got the job done in a four-hit, seven-inning outing in a rout.

At Hiroshima Stadium, Kosuke Fukudome went 3-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs and Alex Ochoa hit a tiebreaking solo shot in the eighth inning as Central League-leading Chunichi edged Hiroshima.

At Tokyo Dome, Tomohiro Nioka hit a squeeze bunt off reliever Shohei Tateyama (2-4) with one out and runners at the corners in the eighth inning, lifting Yomiuri past Tokyo Yakult for its third win in a row.

Norichika Aoki hit a solo blast to break a scoreless deadlock in the sixth before Shinnosuke Abe’s drive over the right-field fence tied the game in the bottom half of the frame.

At Koshien Stadium, Tomoaki Kanemoto hit a three-run tiebreaking home run in the fifth inning and Lin Wei-zhu chipped in with a pinch-hit solo shot in the seventh as Hanshin held off Yokohama.
