Jeev Milkha Singh got off to a strong start in his bid for a first career victory on the Japanese Tour on Thursday, taking a one-stroke lead after shooting a 7-under-par 65 in the first round of the Coca-Cola Tokai Classic.

Singh highlighted his round by holing a 30-footer for eagle on the par-5 15th hole while gathering five birdies without a dropped shot on the Miyoshi Country Club West Course.

The 33-year-old from India hit 15 greens in regulation and needed just 10 putts in a back-nine 31. He ended the day one shot clear of Y.E. Yang of South Korea, Toru Taniguchi and Takuya Taniguchi.
