Tours to the truce village of Panmunjom, which straddles the two Koreas, will be halted next week, in the latest signal that the groundwork is being laid for a possible meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un when Trump visits South Korea.
South Korea’s Unification Ministry will halt its special small-scale trips to the site from late October to early November, the Yonhap news agency quoted a ministry spokesperson as saying. Trump is expected to attend Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum meetings in Gyeongju, South Korea, from Oct. 29 to 30.
Ministry trips had already been limited after they were initially suspended in 2023 following an unauthorized crossing by U.S. soldier Travis King into North Korea at the truce village in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
