The ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Nippon Ishin no Kai are fine-tuning discussions on forming a coalition and electing LDP President Sanae Takaichi as prime minister early next week.
Discussion topics between the two sides range from establishing a secondary capital to reforming the social security system to overhauling the rules for funding political parties.
What’s expected to bring them together, however, isn’t just a similar policy agenda. Nippon Ishin and the LDP also share an ideological likeness. Some members of Nippon Ishin were formerly affiliated with the LDP.
