The Nagano District Court sentenced Masanori Aoki, 34, to death Tuesday for the 2023 killings of four people, including two police officers, in the city of Nakano, Nagano Prefecture.
“This extremely brutal crime took the lives of four precious people,” said presiding Judge Masashi Sakata before handing down the verdict, according to NHK. “It leaves no room for leniency, and deserves the highest level of condemnation.”
When the verdict was read out, Aoki appeared emotionless, calmly facing forward and not moving, NHK reported.
