U.S. President Donald Trump said he hopes to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this year, as South Korean President Lee Jae Myung hailed Trump as a “peacemaker” during a defense— and trade-focused summit in Washington on Monday.
"I'd like to meet him this year," Trump told Lee during the South Korean leader’s first visit to the White House as president. "I look forward to meeting with Kim Jong Un in the appropriate future."
Trump was effusive about his “very good relationship” with Kim, who he met three times during his first term in office, saying that his administration, together with Lee’s, can make “big progress” with North Korea.
