Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Friday it will halt production of the Smart forfour model for DaimlerChrysler AG at a plant in the Netherlands.
The two automakers had been in talks on ending production of the compact car since March, after the German carmaker decided to stop making the model as part of its restructuring efforts.
Production will end Friday, MMC said in a statement.
Tokyo-based MMC still makes the Colt model at the plant in Born, Netherlands, and said production of that auto will continue despite the discontinuation of the Smart forfour.
Ending the Smart production will not affect MMC earnings forecast for the current fiscal year, it said.
