An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 rocked northeastern Japan on Sunday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
No tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the 7:06 a.m. quake.
The quake registered 3 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7 in Nambutaira and Hashikami in Aomori Prefecture and Hironoono and Moriokatamayama in Iwate Prefecture, the agency said.
The quake was also felt in Hokkaido, Miyagi and Akita prefectures.
