Oki Electric Industry Co. said Tuesday it has launched a voice-synthesizing microchip that can be produced in one-third the time required for the previous version.
Conventional mask-ROM voice chips, made with the customer's voice data, take at least six weeks to manufacture.
Oki said its new production-programmed ROM allows data to be written in the final test stage, which cuts production time to two weeks.
